I have used them all and they have their pluses and minuses. I also build odd shaped molds on the top of my anvil using various sized 1/4" square tool steel rods that I hold in place with small magnets.

I have a couple lee ingot moulds. In retrospect, I should have spent a little more for the Lyman moulds. The Lee makes two one pound and two half pound. I don't use the half pound. The Lyman has 4 one pound ingot sections. I spend too much time waiting for two Lee ingots to cool when the Lyman would double production.

Once initially cured like this, the mold will only need a little more oil applied every few ingots. Machined molds, with smoother surfaces, take a lot less preparation than rougher cast iron molds, which initially need a lot of soot and oil to clog up the rough pores enough so the metal can easily separate from it.
