I've got a Kitchen Aid and use the meat grinder attachment all the time but when it came to grain I decided I wanted a dedicated mill. I've got a barley crusher and the hopper makes a big difference. Plus with a drill attached it goes fairly quick, although the grain needed for 10gal is ridiculous.

I have not tried manually crushing a whole batch s worth only about 8oz of specialty grains before I got my mill but it was NOT a lot of fun. The gap settings were 1.25 mm, 1.0 mm, 0.75 mm and 0.50 mm, and I used a feeler gauge to confirm these gap setting between each milling. After milling, I performed a grain sieve test on the different malts and crushes, and recorded all of the results.

At first I thought the shorter handle was a negative because it was obvious there would be less torque. However, it also occurred to me that a shorter handle on the Cereal Killer would actually increase the RPM'S making it produce crushed grain faster.
I can't imagine there is a large difference in crush speed between the 2/3 roller mills homebrewers generally use (cereal killer, barley crusher, captian crush, monster mill, etc). Of course not many homebrewers brew to fill 55 gallon barrels, so you may need something more powerful.
